The latest leaked specifications for Intel’s first Gulftown processor shot a little too low, it seems. An online retailer in Austria has quietly put up a listing for a six-core Core i7-980 Extreme Edition processor, detailing pricing and full specs that look better than what the rumor mill hinted.

According to the e-tailer, this upcoming CPU features six 32-nm cores clocked at 3.33GHz, 12 threads, 12MB of L3 cache, and a maximum Turbo Boost clock speed of 3.6GHz (presumably attainable only by a single core when the others aren’t loaded). The processor’s built-in triple-channel memory controller also supports DDR3 speeds of up to 1066MHz, which ought to enable top theoretical bandwidth of around 25.6GB/s.

How much does this puppy cost? Alternate.at quotes a price tag of €1,099 including taxes. For reference, the same e-tailer charges €1,049 for the quad-core Core i7-975 Extreme Edition, Intel’s current fastest desktop CPU. Since the i7-975 sells for a little under $1,000 in the U.S., we can probably expect similar pricing for the upcoming six-core behemoth.

Finally, Alternate.at quotes an "announced delivery date" of March 14 for the Core i7-980 Extreme Edition. (Thanks to TR reader Marian for the tip.)
