OpenCL developers, rejoice. AMD has released a new beta of its ATI Stream SDK v2.0 developer toolkit, this time bringing complete support for the new GPU-computing application programming interface. The Khronos Group has blessed the release as "fully compliant" with the OpenCL 1.0 specification. Best of all, this toolkit is freely available to the public—no registration needed.

You can grab the beta right from AMD’s Stream SDK v2.0 Beta Program page. AMD offers graphics drivers and variants of the software development kit for Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, openSUSE 11, and Ubuntu 9.04, all in 32-bit and 64-bit versions.

Supported graphics processors include the Radeon HD 4000 and 5000 series, and AMD notes that its x86, SSE3-capable microprocessors can run OpenCL code, too. If we recall correctly, AMD first brought SSE3 support in the revision E Athlon 64 CPUs that came out in mid-2005.

Nvidia also made its first OpenCL-compliant graphics drivers available to the public late last month. You have to fill in a short survey to get to the download page on Nvidia’s site, though.
