I've thought about doing a hackintosh just to see if I can do it and also see what's the big deal about OSX. Mac users say it just works if you plug in devices and so on. I have to say "yes it works too on Windows, especially with Windows 7" if it doesn't Windows will download the latest driver for it from windows update. I feel MS is hoping Apple wins this case, if they don't then MS is going to have some major competition.

Apple's next response will be to sell their OS as firmware and integrate it onto the hardware they sell (sign and encrypt). The technology is already there, the turbo memory interface from Intel would work fine. All you would need is 8GB of flash storage. Firmware upgrades would probably use some sort of certificate validation. Psystar's business model isn't sustainable and Apple can move to this configuration at any future date in a couple of product cycles.

Is there any reason why it is not legal to create a Mac clone, but it was legal to to create a PC clone? Shouldn't there be some sort of legal precedent?

When Jobs bites the dust, does anyone else think Apple might try to market OS X to other PC manus? I know the company has been strictly against putting its OS's on computers not built by Apple, but with as much interest as there seems to be in the Mac OS now, would it be workable?

They would be subject to a lot more harassment by viruses and would have a headache when it comes to making it compatible with any combo of hardware (like Microsoft has to), but there could be a payoff.

Naturally this would ablate their status as a snob-friendly company, but I bet they could make more money.
