Interesting that Apple did a large part of the OpenCL groundwork internally then turned it over to an open body then continued to play a significant role in that further development. THEN nvidia comes out with OpenCL compliant drivers for Windows and Linux but NOT Mac. Clearly shows where their priorities are and they're not associated with Apple.

AMD would better hurry up, because the "first half of this year" won't last much longer.

"bring DX11 capabilities to Windows XP"
Not quite. OpenCL is really a mechanism for highly paralleled processing that would "allow" OpenCL to best adapt a CPU or GPU for its needs. OpenCL is less about graphics and more about generic parallel processing. |

The great thing about OpenCL and OpenGL is that they are cross-platform and in this case can bring DX11 capabilities to Windows XP. It is strange though that Vista isn't supported out of the gate. I'm guessing there are issues to be worked out with Aero and how to share the GPU.
I'm assuming the registration is for the developer SDK and eventually OpenCL drivers will be integrated into the graphics drivers to simplify things for the end user? |
