This is slow because this will incorporate new technologies like SATA3 and USB 3 too. that techlogy is still on dispute last year, so AMD waited all of them to finalize before starting new one.

790GX still all it needs. Nothing much proc architectural changes that requires new chip.

P55 is a new socket for new processor with new architecture.

Eew, I just realized something:

If these new chipsets are all delayed this long, then the server ones likely are, as well. Slow AMD is slow.

Yeah maybe version 10 or whatever of their southbridge will finally be perfect... or, at least competitive...

Is it bad that I'm more interested in the south bridge?

Was hoping for more beefy integrated graphics than keeping the same old integrated core as before. I guess AMD want to encourage people to buy discrete cards though.

(Let's hope AMD also fixes those AHCI performance snags into which we've been running.)

Yes, those are snags up with which we will not put!

Let's hope they don't do what they did with the first 7xx chipsets and use the previous southbridge (then SB600, now SB700).

what about those RAID issues with the SB600? Are they fixed?
As far as I remember the feature existed but didn't work?
