My Win7x64 install reports that it expires 7/1/2009. The date check must have been coded by the Zune team.

BTW, kudos to whoever chose the new background.

Perfect.

I love it, even though I managed to thoughly wack my XP install in the process, and I've given up trying to get it back at this point, I think.

To clarify: Others with just XP have managed to just install Win7 into another partition on the same drive and keep XP intact (with a boot menu?)

I might have to format my main drive, install XP in partition1, install vista in partition 2, and then upgrade vista. I might give that a shot.

The funny thing is, they added a few polished features to the GUI but not much of it really feels fundamentally different from what was offered in Vista. Now, I like Vista and have been using it since release without complaint. But anyone who hated Vista with a passion only to praise Win7 is only kidding themselves. That's not to say the changes aren't appreciated, because they are, but there is less here to warrant an upgrade from Vista to Win7 versus going from XP to Vista.

I installed it on my laptop (Compaq 6910p) and everything worked fine immediately except the video was stuck in default generic driver, sticking me with 1024x768 instead of the correct 1280x800. A quick visit to download Vista 64-bit video driver cured that, and all has been well since.

How stable is this expected to be? I have one computer, and would love to give it a try, but I need that one computer to work...

"...so don't go thinking you get a free OS out of the deal."

Crafty programmers! Why would we ever do that?! :)
