Now, if they can come up with an upgrade program that would turn my BFG 8800GT into a 4870, I'd be set!

#17....Ive changed several vid cards on same board running xp home OEM and have never had to call to reactivate ever. A deal like this is beneficial to those wanting to upgrade or have aging machines that have seen better days and save a bit on a newer card. Ive got 3 agp systems here and the BFG card i changed out will go into the new HTPC while the gf gets the old board with an even older card:)

FWIW, I've successfully activated XP on an older Dell that required a new mobo. Had to call India, but getting a code was no trouble at all.

Looks in mirror at self and sighs.... "...buy a new motherboard, and presumably acquire processor and memory upgrades, as well." And thanks to quote number one, quote number two is my primary hurdle as to why i am still on agp at this moment..... |

If you have a SLI board you can drop the extra card in and use it for Folding or Physics.

This is pretty awesome for BFG to do despite the near-whole system upgrade necessity. They didn't need to do anything like this at all. And they aren't giving some total crap card either, the 9600GT OC is quite decent and $50 for a 9800GT is very nice too.

This is probably to remove the "lifetime warranty" liability from their books so they don't have to keep old stock around.
None the less, it's a good deal. I wish they had this for the PCIe 6600 GT... :( |

Awesome, I had a 6800OC in an extra machine I had around the house. Just traded it up to a 9800GT for $50

Great find, thanks a lot TR for reporting this.
I was wondering what i was going to do with my old card. I am wondering what BFG is going to do with my old card. Perhaps use this for RMA's on the older parts? Glad I have always stuck with BFG, never had any problem with them and now this awesome deal. unfortunately when i tried to register my 6800 gt oc it had an unrecognized upc code, emailed bfg and asked whats up with that |

Might even be worth grabbing a BFG AGP card off eBay and paying the 50$, or even twice.
One or two of those plus a decent SLI mobo will drive even really big LCDs with ease. Dual 8800GT would do all but Crysis at playable FPS even at 2560*1600. Dual 9800GT can only do as good or better. |

Hmm... my desktop has a BFG 6800 OC card in it. I could get a 9600 GT for free or a 9800 GT for $50. Thanks for this post, I never would have seen this offer otherwise.

I have an older box I don't use anymore with a 7600gs, but it's sadly a PNY product (something from Best Buy) I think. I would have been very happy to see this offer even if it was just to get a 9500.

Oh and one more thing, if you upgrade your whole system, your OEM copy of Windows may stop working when you try to reinstall the OS because you changed too many components and the system is concerned too different to work under the OEM agreement. This means you will have to buy a new copy of Windows on top of other hardware components.
