I bought a new Aeron 7 years ago when I started my web design company. Seven years later, it's almost like it was the day I bought it. It's not perfect (it rocks side to side more than a $50 cheapo and even after parts replacements and numerous visits from repair people it still feels a little bit like sitting on top a Swiss ball) but each new year I appreciate the investment a little more.

Hmmm, I've been debating for over 2 years on whether to get an aeron or a humanscale freedom chair.

I'm not exactly in a rush (partly due to the price, partly due to the fact that I haven't seen an aeron in person yet, anywhere in Montreal that has them?), but I would like to solve this conundrum as it has been taking space in my conscious mind for too long (and it doesn't pay rent!).

I know about the markups, but curiosity owns me...

I wonder if this means Aerons will get cheaper?

How fitting during a global economy meltdown.

By the end of the week we'll be seeing people buy canned food by the armful.

that product has generated $1.5 billion in revenue for Herman Miller

... during the dot com boom. I remember seeing whole truck loads of them going to auction when the bubble burst. I remember wondering how much venture capital had gone directly to Herman Miller, because every little startup in the valley had to have a foosball table, a few Razor scooters, and H-M chairs for the employees (or at least the founders).

We're in very different economic times now.

i think its cool but the stand / foot part of it that holds the wheels doesn't really match... and of course the price is ridiculous

I am at work sitting right now in one of these babies.

I have sat in an aeron and honestly, I prefer this thing at substantially less cost to boot.

I've heard of e-peen, but never desk-peen.

I sold office chairs for 10 years. There is something to be said about having a comfortable, ergonomic chair, but $600 is the max. The rest is just ego booster. Sorry to insult anyone, but I wouldn't brag about dropping $1500 on a chair.

//That IS ugly.

I see a couple of things wrong with the chair. First off its WAYYYYY to expensive. Second off the back on the chair isnt high enough. I like to lean back in my office chair and rest my head against the chair. I have a bad disc in my neck and being able to do that really helps.

Unless I am awfully bad at math, that is "only" a million units. Sure, that is a lot of chairs, but I think of all the cubicle panels they have sold and those numbers must be in the billions (of panels) Seems like a drop in the bucket at 1 million pieces in 14 years

Ironically enough earlier today I was doing some reading for a class. I opened the book at random for the very first time today and the first words I saw were "Herman-Miller". The book had a paragraph on the production practices of Herman-Miller, and I was a tad freaked out that right after reading this TR article the first thing I read in this book is about Herman-Miller.

It looks like a parking garage still under construction.

I suppose it's more comfortable than its first impression suggests. But unless a person has back problems that can be mitigated by sitting in ugly, expensive chairs, I'm just not seeing it.

I can't believe people/companies pay so much for chairs.

Of course, I say this while my behind is firmly sitting in a Aeron chair here at work. My quick review: nice, but no way worth the asking price.

$1600 bucks? This chair better give massages with happy endings for that price.

Good time to introduce a boutique chair.

Our office in philly has ALL Aerons, and the general concensus is that no one likes them. I have a Knoll chair at home (my mom has worked there for 30+ years so I have lots of wierdo Knoll furniture) that I think kicks the crap out of the Aeron.
