For those shipping from NCIX, just choose Canada Post rather than UPS or FedEx. That way, if you're not home to receive your packages, they go to your local post office (usually only a few minutes drive away), instead of some central depot that's usually a 20+ min drive across town. Canada Post courier service is cheaper than UPS and FedEx, and usually just as fast.

Oh, and I have to add my agreement that avoiding the Ontario PST @8% is one of the main reasons I shop with NCIX. I won't do business with any online store that tries to charge me PST, if I can do business out of province.

ummmm the NCIX.com prices for the 4850, the E8400 are incorrect and while TechReport is correct for the WC caviar 640 at $79.49 what they didn't consider is that NCIX.com sells the Seagate 7200.11 640gb which Newegg doesn't.... for less than Neweggs WD price.

NCIX.com 4850 price.

the E8400 price

http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=27784&vpn=BX80570E8400&m...

you know I'm getting really tired of TechReport publishing price comparisons that favor Newegg.... the price I just posted is a "special price" at $177.99 while Newegg's price is $180.00 and the shipping from NCIX is cheaper.

some serious consideration in regards to credibility should be factored in the articles.

p.s. NCIX.com pricematches and still has cheaper shipping so grab the best prices from newegg and then get it sent for less......

I'm out for the best deal, if you want to call me a fanboy I'm guilty of being a fanboy of money.

it has the cheapest shipped prices for two of the three items. For the Core 2 Duo E8400, DirectCanada charges almost $15 CAD less. Low prices or not, we'll have to leave it up to consumers to see whether Newegg Canada's shipping and after-sales service are up to snuff.

first off TechReport this quote while dubious, is as lazy as it is misleading..... and this is where the issues lie, I apologize for any offense but honestly if your going to post something at least error check it given it's your websites reputation on the line.

the posted prices were in regards to an Asus Radeon 4850 HD, the E8400 and finally the WD 640gb drive..... and the article claimed that Newegg is beating the competition in 2 out of 3 cases...... this is in fact wrong.

I didn't bother comparing Canada Wide I simply grabbed NCIX.com's weekly specials which consists of a huge banner add on their front page for anyone to click on, it's valid for 1 week which given the volatile nature of the industry is all anyone can expect and immediately found a 4850 with a better heatsink from a reputable company selling for less then I compared it to Newegg's equivalent and it was more expensive...... now some have complained that I should have stuck to the mentioned video card and shouldn't have searched for a better deal..... but even if I do stick with the limited criteria the problem is that the Direct Canada quoted price is wrong.

Direct Canada is selling the Asus 4850 for $177.90 and not the $207 quoted by TechReport.

http://www.directcanada.com/products/?sku=10530BD2434&vpn=EAH4850/H...

as for the E8400 Cyrils defense that the price was "time limited" doesn't fly ...... 1: the "special prices quoted by NCIX are weekly and in the case of the E8400 it has been on special for less than Neweggs price for more than 2 months....... the truth is the "weekly specials" that have the same parts week after week with little fluctuation are not "limited time offers".... they are the regular price.

2ndly this is the computer hardware sales industry, prices change week to week / day to day and not anywhere on Newegg's site is their a proclamation that the price for their E8400 is guaranteed to remain the same for more than a week so it's fair game to quote the "special price" which is nothing more than a flashy advertising technique.

now the WD 640gb hdd the price.

1st Newegg doesn't have the selection of it's rivals atm and the rivals alternative offerings seem to be less expensive but on top of this a quick pricematch using any Canadian search engine reveals that the same WD drive from other websites are in fact less expensive than Newegg whether it be Canada Computers or Compu2000 but instead of putting in a little effort a flawed article was let fly with comments about "well we really didn't look but Newegg is cheaper in 2 cases"...... well its not.

under the best of light the article says Newegg is beating the competition which it simply isn't...... it's competitive and it's close..... no one is screaming that it's an out and out ripoff were talking differences of less than $20.00 after shipping.

understand I welcome more competition in the market and I was looking forward to Newegg's arrival I've heard nothing but good things about them but as it turns out Newegg is likely going to fit in nicely into the lanscape as another website that I compare prices too finding the deals they have while ignoring the parts they aren't offering deals on.

I'm not attacking anyone personally I'm highlighting a seriously flawed news post in the hopes that it's never again repeated.

apologies to any and all for any hard feelings or insult.

if any have problems in the future PM me and I'll do the searching for you or tell you where to go to get the answers that are needed for future reference but to be honest the post being commented on was wrong.

I think anyone who's shopped at NCIX can attest to the fact that the "weekly deals" are the "real" prices that NCIX deals at competitively. If you're going to buy a 4850 from them, you're not going to search specifically for an Asus card that costs over 200 bux. You're going to goto the weekly sales and find the best deal on the 4850. This applies to ALL products, essentially.

Speaking of the Palit 4850, free express shipping anyone?

Simply put, don't confuse Newegg's "weekly sales" and NCIX's "weekly sales"; they cannot be compared. Newegg still has a way to go before being really competitive.

What TR could do for us is find out if newegg ships from the states, or from inside canada :)

That is not quite fair as cherry picking items can show significant differences. Outside of the E8400 at NCIX, that was incorrectly listed (please correct this - it is $178.99), consider the sale prices that are available for many of most popular items (note: sale prices are usually not available on Wednesday until the late evening).
So instead of the WD 640GB (that currently isn't on sale, but often is such as just over a week ago when it was $72.99) could consider the Samsung F1 640GB at $69.99 and instead of the ASUS 4850, could get the Palit 4870 at $249.99 or if want the cheaper 4850 (but not from ASUS) there are a few under $180.

But I am happy that there is another competitor in Canada. It will help keep prices low. And hopefully it will keep the same quality & performance as newegg in the states. And should improve existing online stores in Canada.

As NCIX is put under an unfairly poor light by the article, so here is a better light:
- NCIX price match is alive & well. So can look around to get the best prices (I think all Direct Canada prices are immediately approved). NCIX sale prices are often already the best price.
- NCIX owns Direct Canada and Netlink (and more).
- NCIX does not charge PST except in BC.
- NCIX often have shipping promotions (e.g. $5 for the order).
- NCIX Express RMA option. Something doesn't work, it often takes under a week for everything.
(I think most of this has already been mentioned, but here it is all in one place)

Hopefully the article can be updated & corrected.

They're gonna need it if they keep shipping DHL by default in the US. Going to be 4 days to get a box with 2 memory sticks from Edison NJ to Philadelphia PA. UPS did it in < 18 hours, for the same price.

While Newegg may have good overall prices:
1) It's shipped ONLY by UPS. Hearing so many horror stories just makes me not want to ship my fragile computer parts with them.
2) On top of shipping, you have to pay the full amount of tax on what you buy (13% in Ontario for example) as opposed to only the 5% GST with NCIX. Overall, Newegg costs more.

One thing I do prefer over NCIX is looking for products and their pictures.

Has anyone else been having problems with Newegg's sort by lowest price lately? I also really hate that it is not the default sort option anymore.

NCIX doesn't do price match anymore it seems, and their prices are conviniently higher than everywhere else. ByeBye.

I'm scared of ordering anything from Newegg, since not only do they charge 13% tax, I may also have to pay border tax and their website has 0 information about this. ByeBye.

DirectCanada prices are good, they only charge 5% GST and they have cheap 9.99 shipping. Thank you.

The Canadian newegg.ca website is excellent; however, as a resident of Ontario, I get charged 8% PST from newegg.ca but don't when ordering from NCIX. This usually makes the purchase more expensive, and is, in my mind, a deal breaker.

TBSS (Too Bad So Sad). I've had excellent service from NCIX over the years - almost 100 orders.

The question is: do they ship from a canadian location? or do we risk paying brokerage fees? Those fees kill it for me.

But... it never hurts for consumers to have a new player to compare prices with. NCIX matches prices anyway, so they certainly will with Newegg.ca as well ;-)
