I see the target for this. If I owned a Thermaltake Mozart TX case with a standard PC installed in it. I would purchase this, a Intel D945GCLF Atom based board and a RAID setup (disks, plus RAID card). It would be quite nice to have my standard gaming based PC *plus* a FreeNAS based setup installed into the same case.

I currently have a Chenbro ES30068 with a RAID setup and that Intel based MB I wrote about above running FreeNAS and it would be awesome if I did not need a extra box to handle this duty. Having this all integrated into one box with a foldout screen for monitoring and administration would be icing on the cake for me.

I agree though a 5.25" version of this with a cheaper price point would be almost a no brainer purchase for me. it's a brilliant piece of tech but just like anything Thermaltake they seem to fall short on several fronts with most of their products.

How exactly does this connect to a PC when it's got the USB-A (host) end connector instead of the USB-B (device) end?

And why the RCA inputs? does it have speakers built in or something?

Can I get it with satellite radio and GPS navigation?

Nah, this is a neat little device to have. If we can get it hooked up as a display for Nvidia's ESA then we'll be alright. I'd love to have a touch screen menu pop out of my box so I can overclock.

Then again, for $337 I'll just get another 22" LCD, go dual monitor, and use my handy mouse...

I would rather use foobar2000 on a 7" screen @ 800x600, infact I would rather use foobar on any size/resolution.

Samsung is supposedly going to release the 7" secondary display of the 2263DX as its own product. A guy at the DisplayLink booth (at IDF) told me it'd be around $100, which if true, is a great price.

For cars this is a nice product - shame it doesn't include the Atom based system in the chassis area under the screen though!

Missing from the review, and highly critical for a car application: What happens if something it blocking the screen's path when the button is pushed? Does the unit recognize the obstruction, stall, and then retract again, or does it sit there and grind out the gears?

How stiff is the screen when using the touch-screen functionality? Do you have to brace the backside when pushing?

I have a Xenarc 7" and it works great - it has all the bells, but the buttons on the front feel pretty cheap. All-in-all thermaltake's version seems to be a cut down version to the already plentiful automotive screen market and seems to lack a lot of options that most people would want like more inputs (audio & video) -- much more outputs for additional screens -- the ability to hook directly to your car/truck's existing cabling so you can directly connect to the speaker system and power.

These are some of the issues I came across when I built my carPC and the Xenarc offering had connections and options for them all and then some. It has a dvd-rom built-in as well -- which comes in handy. Tied it all together with Streetdeck and I have a complete system that reads data from my car, plays my music and movies, connects with my iPod, connects with satellite radio, Streedeck comes with MS mappoint and connects to my MS GPS device.... the list goes on.

Love the 7" monitor... but would prefer it to be stand alone (no enclosure). Not sure I would need the touch screen either. Sure looks slick, though.

Aww man! I would love, just love to be able to have a seven or eight inch LCD to use as a dedicated secondary monitor for things like music players or instant messaging, but when getting a spare 1024x768 15 inch would be half the price...yeah, thats just not going to happen.

This is pretty cool but for home use I'd just as soon get a larger non-motorized touchscreen or a much larger standard display that could be used across the room with a wireless keyboard and mouse for the same money.

I now need one of these for my truck! Also... i need one for my desktop! Wouldn't be too hard to mod a case to fit one, and man would it be cool to have! Not sure what practical thing i would use it for... but dang it would be fun to have!
