Next gen Atom (Pineview/Lincroft) looks pretty interesting -- DMI interconnect, and GPU in the package (though probably not on-die). They must be pretty confident about the low-power attributes of that arrangement, and if DMI has good power characteristics that also should benefit Nephalem. Contrary to what Ars suggest*], I'd guess the IMC is integrated into the graphics die, not the processor (the IMC has to be awake to handle the framebuffer even if the rest of the processor is sleeping, so it really makes sense to put them together, especially if the processor wasn't designed with an IMC from the beginning). Of course atom is small enough they could bite the bullet and put it on the same die with the GPU and the IMC, but I really don't expect that in this timeframe.
