192 Millon? That's enough for what 3 or 4 month before they burn through all the cash.

Wasn't that one of the parts that always made money for ATI?

AMD/ATI's goal is to compete directly against Intel with CPU/core logic/graphics. Intel does make wireless cards, but there is much competition for wireless cards and AMD can pick this tech up easily as purchased item.
A division that is a money-loser and not a core competence? Kick it to the curb. |

AMD is like a guy who took on a huge loan to buy a Ferrari, and now he's selling the hub caps for gas money.

AMD employees across six design centers worldwide will get new jobs at Broadcom (if they agree to the company's invitation, that is).

This is not the TV wonder parts.
the xilleon chips went in TV's not video cards. The division was a hug money loser. The AIW cards are actually making a comeback. They are still the only player with DCT. |

This unit loss $44 Million(excluding asset impairment) in Q2, $50 Million in Q1 and $69 Q4-2007, so this unit is defintely not a profitable unit.

This is their SoC business, for set top boxes. I don't believe any of your All-in-Wonders had Xilleons in them.

The chips that go into TV stuff used to be one of ATI's great IP's. They did it really well, before. |

Intel did something similar a few years ago when they decided they had enough of the crap that led them to the Pentium 4.
This is good! |

This is AMD focusing on CPUs and GPUs ONLY. Everything else can be contracted out as far as their concerned. I'd rather them do this than see a worse outcome.

interesting. So, we have cellular, bluetooth, networking, QAM, and now DTV processors.
This makes me think slingbox. |
