Best show yet guys!
As for the monitor debacle I went from 1280x1024 19" running everything maximized to a Samsung 244T and discovered the solution to the widescreen problem... Just get one that rotates! Portrait when I need to do some serious DTP otherwise it's landscape, it's the only way to use Audiacy. |

Just thought I'd add that I like how the podcast is structured these days and hope it continues to develop.
Everything is rounded off much better than it used to be, and the music is pretty good too :P PS: I loved the dog barking blooper, more of those in the future please! |

Re the Dell S2409, it's not just the 10% fewer pixels, it's also the panel quality: its predecessor was a S-PVA or S-IPS display, while this one is a mediocre TN panel with horrific color reproduction that's very viewing-angle dependent.
I must say that unlike Jordan, I value vertical pixels a lot more than I value horizontal pixels, since I do work with a lot of text all day, so I do consider the move to 16:9 aspect to be detrimental to my workflow. (I'm one of the few people who prefer 4:3 or 5:4 displays over widescreen, actually.) Not that any of us have a say in it -- the panel makers call the shots, effectively. Damage's point (about display DPI) is well-taken. If the DPI goes up, and the display is large enough to provide enough pixels, it isn't as much of an issue, although this is really restricted by the willingness of panel makers to invest money in higher-DPI displays and the availability of resolution-independent GUIs. (Note how most laptops still sell with WXGA displays, so OEMs and probably panel makers want to sell more lower-DPI panels, probably because defect rates are lower that way. Also note how IPS displays have slowly disappeared off laptops, since panel makers focus their IPS manufacturing on low-DPI high-margin HDTV displays. Re: low-power, low-cost, low-speed processors, the C7 and its predecessors have long been popular processors for embedded work. You can get cheap PC/104+ industrial single-board computers with C7s on them that are probably as small as the pico-ITX boards, and can be ordered from multiple manufacturers for not much money (e.g. [2]; note the size of the board compared to the size of the IDE port). Had to laugh at that "Chasing that kind of carrot" line....good luck with that Geoff :)
ps Hance...Widescreen monitors FTW....get one dude..seriously. Your eyes flick from side to side a whole lot more often and way faster than your scrolling fingers will ever manage. (0-0) |

A whole other point - Have there been any thoughts about doing some form of content index, including the associated weblinks, as a download togehter with the downloadable version?

Damage - Welcome to the club of exclusive real chairs. Your back will thank you in the long run. I got a good chair in '02 or something. Had one at work, got one like it, but all leather for home. At the time i probably spent up to 16 hours / day in such a chair. 15 year warranty on the cloth, etc. $900 is just about nothing for something that you spend something like 1500 hours / year in, probably up to 3000+ hours/ year if you also use it for work. Thats as much time as a person spend in bed.

I havent had a chance to listen yet I will either late tonight or tomorrow. One thing I can comment on now is the move to 16:9 monitors. IT SUCKS. Last time I checked 95% of the scrolling a person does is up and down not left and right. The only reason they are building monitors in this format is its cheaper. They will have to pry my 20 inch 4:3 LCD out of my cold dead hands.

How was the Asus move not underhanded? Why prevent another company from using the chip other than to push them out of the market? C-Media saw a lot of money upfront, and Asus got... what? They still could have got the chip but now they don't have to compete with another company having the same one. A deal doesn't have to be back room to be underhanded.

On a side note, the carrot comment and the barking dog at the end made this one of my favorite episodes. ^.^
