Will DDR3 be MUCH cheaper in September? Probably not. I like the idea of a $284 CPU but that DDR3 is gonna rape my budget.
Penryns should be dirt cheap soon though. YAY! |

less than $200 for 4gb? Yeah, for the slower DDR3 which show no improvement over DDR2.

The E8*** series seems like it will suit my needs for a while to come.
CPUs are getting to a point where performance is passing where it's actually needed, unless of course you use Folding@Home. I play games and use Photoshop, I don't think I'd need anything more than a Core2Duo especially since Adobe is working on taking advantage of video cards. I applaud Intel for working so hard though and making affordable processors. They may make a mighty competitor in the graphics market. |

My guess is that Intel may very well announce these products in September, but it will be three-to-six months later before they ship in volume.

So this should push the current quad prices into the basement, or at least I'm hoping it does.

It will be extremely low availability for press only and just the Extreme Edition type parts (in the $1K price range), and only work on $300-400 motherboards which are also in extremely low availability.
No real people will be able to get anything until February at the earliest.
