Heh, I noticed the naming mix up when checking out the new Sager NP8660 (15.4in Montevina gaming laptop) last week. The cost to upgrade to the 9800M GTS is significantly less than upgrading to the 9800M GT. I had just assumed that it was a mix up on the website I was looking at.

The words "totally confusing" doesn't match the feeling of reading those model names.

You know, when listing notebook GPUs, one really cannot compare them without also listing the TDP for each of them. For example, which of these is going to end up in a 17" behemoth and which can be fitted in a 15.4" model? Considering the popularity of the 15.4" format, this is of a great deal of interest to many would-be buyers.

9800M GT > 9800M GTS is not only inconsisten with their desktop line...its inconsistent with the 9700M line...who the heck screwed this up should be taken out back and err....given a talking to....

Seriously though...thats major branding confusion...

Are you sure the 9700m gt is 256 bit, the bandwidth is half of the other cards? Unless they are using 256bit/ddr2, which seems to be a dumb thing to do on mobile card.

Maybe instead of 9800GTS and 9700GTS it's supposed to be 9800GS and 9700GS. Not your typo, but nVidia's?

Will any of these be made into MXM2 modules? What are the TDPs of these chips? Need to know if I can upgrade my Asus C90s with one of these.

Well, it's been a long time since nVidia's mobile naming conventions made any sense when compared to their desktop parts.

I wonder though if the 9600 GT will be lower clocked than the GTS?

The 9800M GT > 9800M GTS isn't only inconsistent with the desktop graphics cards, its also inconsisten with the 9700M line. Thats quite the screw up, major brand confusion. Although, at least laptop cards are rarely consumer items....

The GeForce 9800M GT actually has better specs than the 9800M GTS, pretty much defying the naming convention Nvidia usually applies to its desktop graphics cards.

And just when I thought NVs naming 'conventions' couldn't get any dumber.

so a 9800M GTX is basically a 8800GT,
how much does it cost though? Gaming laptops are generally way too expensive

Damn, these naming schemes aren't the easiest to keep up with.
