Why does it seam like motherboard manufacturers are the ones who are developing most of these subnotebooks. First, asus, then MSI, now ECS? Does this seem strange to anyone else? I mean, yes, now Dell, Acer, and HP are in the game, but what gives?

1. Asus has been a notebook OEM for a long time, so no surprises there.
2. The bulk of the design is in the system board, for which motherboard companies are already equipped and tooled. The rest is just a matter of contract negotiations with suppliers of off-the-shelf components and/or letting Compal or Quanta deal with the chassis and manufacturing issues.
3. Motherboards have almost no profit margin left in them, so a little diversification into a wilfire market without huge additional capital investment is a wise idea.
