Quarter to quarter (Q4 07 vs Q1 08) means almost nothing thanks to seasonal shifts. The year over year results (Q1 07 vs Q1 08) are more meaningful and paint a far less dire picture for AMD.

The microprocessor market has been especially turbulent lately, with AMD forced to price its Phenom processors out of the high end in a bid to remain competitive.
And AMD's CPU division profitability goes further into the red? Better sell a huge bunch of 4850 and 4870 graphics cards and start shipping 45nm CPUs in mass quantity (and with much higher performance /watt than 65nm Phenom) before Intel (Nehalem) and nVidia (next gen GPU/GPGPU) really tighten the screws in Q4 2008/Q1 2009. |

AMD is getting more interesting of late. They just introduced two great video cards and more will follow, plus they're putting together some nice chipsets, and they just put out a couple of low-cost quads. I like it.

big variation from Q4 2007 to Q1 this year for AMD but i guess it was expected since all the big names were waiting for the TLB bug to be fixed(and that happend at the end of march)
what i think it's going to be interesting is how they do in Q3 since intel will have more 45nm parts(E5xxx ,Q8xxx) and Atom on the market |
