You guys obviously don't follow the roadmaps. This is Bobcat which was supposed to be under 10W. Since 1GHz is plenty for what a MID or UMPC would do, they can actually C&Q it down to 2W.
As far as the HANDHELD space ATi already has a chip that is in most Motorola phones. |

Why no Fusion-like integrated graphics? I would think that would be attractive to systems integrators of mobile devices.

This is the chip AMD should have released in 2003.
Today, or 2009 when/if they release it, it will be a lost cause and will not compete with Gen II Atoms or VIA chips. Poor AMD, their marketing people are far too well overcompensated for the relative to their weak contributions. These guys should be given $40K/annual salaries, or better yet, a monthly allocation of chocolate bars and seamless panty-hose. |

I wonder why haven't we seen that Sempron 2100+ paired with M690 in low-cost subnotebooks ala Asus Eee PC or MSI Wind.
PS: meant as a reply to #34. |

AMD is full of "mysteries" these days. Vapor-phase 45nm processors. Sundry "initiatives" that mysteriously vanish into thin air. ATi trying to milk their current GPU architecture with dual-GPU efforts, since AMD cannot finance any more high-end GPU development.
The only true mystery at AMD is that Hector still has a job and that most of the AMD board have not yet been canned by the stockholders for that ill-timed and ultimately financially-catastrophic ATI acquisition. |

Isn't this chip their Bobcat proc that AMD talked about in Jan. 07. Should be coming out in early 09 last someone reported,

Just an embedded Sempron, it has been launched some time ago and don't compete with Atom or Nano at all.

DDR2-400 seems to be the choice due to power. I would think that lower latency with DDR might be attractive for performance.

2x L1 cache...that would seem to imply a dual core processor. This would be not bad, as I dont' think there are any duals in that power envelope....yet.

It would also be cool if they call that chip as "Mystery" as official name.
What do you think guys? |

Nice chip.
Well what's happening now? Is this progress? We are going back to slower speeds. But this could be useful if it could powerup a cellphone. ^_^ |

I would rather have something that runs cool than something that performs like a desktop for these netbooks. Seriously. It is no fun to use these machines when they run 110F or so on the keyboard and bottom.
