Almost 8 hours of battery life would be sweet.

Asus is a big white-box contract manufacturer, too, right? Did the HP mini-note actually get built by Asus for HP? Or parts of it? It would be interesting to see just how similar they are. This new Eee came awfully soon after HP's, so it makes me wonder. HP could have co-designed with Asus, locked in the Via-based guts since they were available (first to market gets more press and sales) then Asus started getting Atom guts and was actually able to announce the product.

After playing with an Intel Atom based solution, I think I'll wait for something else...(Its like a VIA C3/C7...Weak FPU).
Maybe the VIA Nano will be better? |

Does anyone really care about this announcement? Asus has lost complete focus on what the EeePC is. Plus with the MSI Wind, who would want the 1000 series other than brand loyalty. $399 or $650? not a hard choice in my mind.

I read elsewhere that the Linux version has a 40GB SSD, but the XP Home version has an 80GB HDD.
Prices won't be good. The Register said "Asus expects the 901, 1000 and 1000H to cost NT$16,988, NT$19,988 and NT$18,988, respectively - that's the equivalent of $561/£285, $660/£335 and $627/£319, though clearly that's before import duty and sales tax are added over here." |

Hmm, just seen the Acer One mini-laptop ... maybe this will provide some downward pricing pressure on Asus.

What are those multi-colored lights at the front, viewer-right portion of the base? They look neat.
