Dual was a requirement for me. I have a 100/10 Internet Connection and a gigabit LAN. 100 Mbps LAN is way too slow to work a lot with networked files.

4 is good if you want to run that computer as a router, but no one will, and the motherboard isn't geared for server duties in other areas so it's a bit silly.

2 integrated NICs are not silly.

This board could be used be used as an entry-level "real" router. ;)

Quad gigabit = excessive.
10 SATA ports = excessive, but in a sexy way.
Foxconn mobo = Do I have to register as some sort of deviant for finding a Foxconn board highly interesting?

P45 looks like it could be fun. It's another mostly vanilla respin, but being the last Intel LGA775 chipset, it's getting the all-hands sendoff.

Do Gigabyte engineers/marketeers read TR? The comments are pretty much universally against quad ethernet on a desktop motherboard. The one time I had a motherboard with dual ethernet ports, I disabled the slower one in BIOS. Useless for most everyone.

Areas I think need improved. Layout, reliability, heatsink mounting (backplate and screws), chipset heatinks, labeling, quality, polish, BIOS updates for new CPUs, BIOS updates for undervolting and underclocking, included accessories (cables and such), support (does it exist?), faster websites with less Flash and more function, etc Make it so. Or something. Please.

My last Gigabyte motherboard was defective. Everything else tested good.

I can pooossibly see a potential use for dual NICs, if you want to crossover cable network another PC or maybe use an additional ethernet port and your router is full. Of course a switch is p and permanent solution to this but promoting multiplexed ports as any kind of solution is rediculous, there will always be a greater bottleneck elsewhere unless you have multiple multiplexed PCs on the same LAN. In any case it's a stupid addition and the DS5 looks like a lot nicer option from Gigabyte. Can't wait to see more details on the other companies designs.

I never had use for dual gigabit, never mind quad. Just buy a switch. I'd trade 3 of those ports for a lower price or better audio or something.

4 ethernet ports? This is an idiotic design exercise.

Made me think of this but I'd forgot the actual number of connections.

"You could run this entire park for up to three days with minimal staff. Do you think that kind of automation is easy? Or cheap? Do you know anyone who network three connection machines and debug 2 million lines of code for what I bid for this job? Because if you can I'd like to see 'em try!"

I've a 939 foxconn board with a single core. It's fine, but I handed it down within a few months when I went dual core via gigabyte board. I don't think the gigabyte is much better, if at all.

Wonder how that Gigabyte board would fare as a server board with those enet ports linked together and those sata ports filled with 1TB drives. Or drop in a quad chip and VM it up baybee. hmmmm.....

4 ethernet ports for the average enthusiast... wtf?

But 10 SATA ports... sweet!
