Speaking of which, what happened to AMD's DTX? It hasn't seemed to gain any traction despite being about as interoperable with other standards as you could wish. Announced, what, 15 months ago and I've only seen a few "prototypes" or concepts at trade shows since.

This is an interesting move. This probably means we'll start to see more Mac Mini style computers.

I built a pc for mom on Intel's mITX little river board, and it is cheap (68USD), quiet, and fast enough (1.2GHz Celly). It's only weakness is it's SiS chipset and therefore bad linux support (running Hardy on it now).

The Fly Creek board (?DG35FC, judging from how Intel's named the DP35DP -- Dragontail Peak -- and the DX38BT -- Bone Trail) is only the second G35 motherboard I know of to hit the market (the first being the Asus P5E-VM HDMI), a good six months after the chipset's launch.
It's too bad Intel hasn't pushed manufacturers to launch more G35 boards. Edit: http://www.intel.com/cd/channel/reseller/asmo-na/eng/products/deskt... Looks like there's another Intel G35 board coming, the DG35EC "Eva Cove". And a G45 board coming, the DG45ID "Icedale" as well as a P45 board, the DP45SG "Skyburg". (It appears my board's codename is Frostburg.) Edit 2: http://www.mercateo.com/p/173-1406088/INTEL_DP45SG_Socket775_ATX_NI... -- Apparently available in Germany in 11 days' time. http://www.mercateo.com/p/173-1406094/INTEL_DG45ID_MATX_Socket775_N... -- Also available in 11 days' time. http://www.mercateo.com/p/173-1405395/INTEL_DX48BT2_Socket775_ATX_b... -- Also in 11 days' time. It looks like the 4-series Eaglelake chipset boards are not far off now! |

i used to need extra slots for addins (sound, network, raid, etc)
right now i only have a video card as an add in. that's it.
everything else is either onboard, or usb (eg tv tuner)
as such i'm hoping:
a) micro-atx becomes mainstream and stops (sometimes) costing more than equivalent full-atx
b) sli/crossfire/similar are relegated to specialty full-atx boards where you'd want more add-ins
