#45,
I don't see a problem. You're using patched system files, SP3 recognizes that and replace them with the genuine versions. Then, you can re-install your hacked DLL. |

MajorGeeks says it is the final version but it is build 3310 (RC1) with a size of 315MB, the RTM version is build 5512 with a size of 316MB which can be gotten from Softpedia. If you try downloading WindowsXP-KB936929-SP3-x86-ENU.exe from Microsoft before April 29th you will only find RC2 build 5508 with a size of 336MB.

Installed it on my secondary / backup computer this afternoon. Can't say I see anything different. BUT, I've heard it breaks 3rd party themes (I use the hacked uxtheme.dll on my main machine), so I'm gonna wait and see if that gets resolved before I take the plunge on this one.

Is the file hash the same regardless of the site offering the download?
Probably a better way of determining than filename/file size. |

I just read a timely article about how hackers can use reverse engineering on security patches to generate an exploit within 24 hours of the patch's release.
Is the fact that SP3 has already leaked out onto the internet way before most of us install it on our computers a cause of concern for anyone but me? |

I really don't understand why they just don't put it up for FTP download as soon as it's finalized, like they do with the DirectX redistributables.
As I understand it, MSDN and Technet aren't meant to be profit centers, so why push exclusivity with them when it just encourages people to get SP3 through third parties, thereby opening up security holes that Microsoft WILL be blamed for, even if it's the result of modifications to their software by said third parties? This policy just smacks of the MS we all know and . . . love. I'll be waiting to get it straight from MS. |

I dont get people trying to pirate something that is going to be free anyway. Give it a week and get it from microsoft. It isnt like SP3 brings any huge changes anyway.

Does this need to be slipstreamed on top of SP2 or can it be slipstreamed into an original RC XP DC? (yes I still have mine)

However, with SP3 already available to MSDN and TechNet subscribers, the installer has leaked out into the wild.
I have a technet subscription and I don't see it available for download. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/default.aspx |

The release candidate SP3 releases also bear the same file name, so you have to pay attention to the file size.

That's fine. Your previous post sounded like blaming on SP3 when it's doing an expected thing.
