The question I keep coming back to: Why would I get a graphics chip from anyone other than Nvidia?
Main reasons to stay with Nvidia: - PhsyX - More compatible with games than ATI (Performance is variable although it's stayed in Nvidia's camp for the most part recently) More devs still use Nvidia solutions. ATI still has issues (check the Cat 8.4 release notes if you care to). I recently had an HD 3870 in my system and wound up having issues in Tabula Rasa (fixed according to release notes), City of Heroes (doubtful if it'll ever get fixed) and a few other games. It was louder than my 8800GT as well. I like ATI. I always have. From a gamer's perspective, it just doesn't make sense to own one. I really really want to have a 4870, but the items above keep me holding back and simply waiting for Nvidia's 10.1 solution. So, I'll stick with an 8800GT for now. |

Lots of conclusive statements on here with no actual facts, lets wait for the card to be released then we can act as judges.

If you check the 'open issues' parts of these pdf's, you'll see that nvidia's list is as least as long:
http://uk.download.nvidia.com/Windows/174.74/174.74_WinXP_GeForce_R... http://us.download.nvidia.com/Windows/169.21/169.21_WinXP_Forceware... http://ru.download.nvidia.com/Windows/169.25/169.25_WinVista_Forcew... You're talking about the last 4 years. Do you include the fantastic Vista drivers nVidia had a year ago? You know, the ones that caused the most crashes in Vista of all drivers in the world. Now seriously, i'm running a computer business for the last 10 years and ATI & nVidia both have their pluses and minuses at a driver level. When talking about driver support, you can't be as black & white as you're being. PS: Reply to Sylvanus - don't know what went wrong! |

Bah. Its going to suck, already obvious from the specs and the price tag. Basicaly a 3870 with 480 spu's and higher clocks, making this maybe as fast as a 8800GTX.

Fudzilla claims the information is in error. According to Fudo the cards will have 512 bit memory interface and may be as fast as 2500 MHz GDDR5.

If it is faster in terms of clock to clock speed then Nvidia's top end offering, than i must say Nivida is going to get a big fight from AMD..
I hope it is.. |

Cyril, why don't you mention that the shader domain on the 4870 is running 1050Mhz and 850Mhz on the 4850?

ATI vs. Nvidia
Such a highly debatable topic. Hard to compare by specs since ati and nvidia cards have different architectures. |

I don't understand how ATI can be selling ANY 3870s or 3850s at their current prices. A 9600gt can be had for less than a 3870!

Very good news indeed if it is true. I just got 9600GT 'cause of its price/performance ratio though I was sure I would be getting ATI again. Here in Serbia 9600GT is 130 euros while 3870 is 150+. Math was so simple on that one :).

Nordichardware has already verified that most of the info posted on that German Website is false.
The only possible truth is that the Radeon 4870 release has been moved up 2 weeks. There are others hinting that, THAT may be true. |

"Radeon HD 4850 with lower-clocked GDDR3 memory and specifications otherwise similar to the GDDR5-based 4850."
Go from GDDR5 to GDDR3? What about GDDR4? |
