Well, according to DailyTech, Microsoft has announced that support for Windows XP Home has been extended to June 30, 2010.

This only applies to XP Home by the looks of it though.

Fighter, it sounds to me like you don't have much experience with administration of networks and deployment of new machines in those environments. I could be wrong, but it just sounds that way to me. For home users, all the hoo ha over Vista can be pretty easily dismissed, but for businesses, not so.

I like Vista. But I don't look forward to dealing with deploying it on the company network.

None taken,I was hoping some genius like him would respond...
Now that he's paying attention......let me bend it in neon for him...
The VAST majority of people who buy Vista(99%)like it better than XP.
End of freakin story dude.Get over it.
My small sample of 50 or so Vista users that I know showed that NONE(0%)
wished to go back to XP after 3 months of using Vista.
You can now parse that any which way you desire Sabey, trying to hold back the ocean with a colander is amusing to watch...

No vista here for our corp network.
My Dig cam doesn't work.
Interface bugs galore. Just plain "what were they thinking" type bugs.
Incompatibilities with basic business apps (like UPS Online Worldship, vital for our business. Several others, as well.)

We didn't have these sorts of issues going from NT4-W2K nor from W2K to XP.

Me crosses fingers that the next version of windows will arrive on time, so I can skip Vista.

In other words, XP is quite suitable for basic computing (the type you'd do on a cheap mobile computer), so if all you do is basic computing, you don't need Vista. :P

I'll bet 99% of all people who buy and continue to use Vista think it's better than XP.

XP to Vista brings nothing of any real use.

So, really, your main complaint about Vista is that it isn't XP?

I'm damn glad Vista isn't XP; it's high time that M$ left legacy security and performance problems in the past.

You could set the visual style to maximize for performance.

Control Panel\Performance Information and Tools
Adjust Visual Effects
Adjust for best performance

Looks like XP, stability of Vista.

Haven't felt any need to go to Vista, and I will probably opt for the next version of Windows rather than ever going to Vista.

The only thing that's going to get me to move to Vista is software support, which is currently better for XP than Vista. If great games start becoming Vista exclusives or if Autodesk stuff goes Vista only then I'll probably have to migrate. But I'm hoping that it never happens because there really aren't enough advantages to Vista to warrant a $100 upgrade.

Is there a simple way to make the Vista logon look the same as a XP/2K logon, when on a domain?

My users miss having the drop down box for choosing the domain, and cant figure out how to type "domain\user name" and then the password.

I did a quick look around on the first few Visa machines we got but couldn't find it.

The whole Vista situation is just hilarious.

I'm dreading the day I have to contend with deploying a crop of Vista machines on the office network. (mainly because I'm not a trained network admin and I'm having to learn as I go).

Are there any network admins here that have deployed Vista into an otherwise XP environment? How'd it go?

It's fine so far, really. We only have one application (WebEx inventory client) that doesn't work with Vista until this summer. Otherwise, it's just like adding WinXP units to the domain.
