I really feel like upgrading but there doesn't seem to be a big enough jump from my 8800GTS 640 mb to another one to justify the expense. I'd rather invest in a new processor

Still keeping the 9X name for a next gen GPGPU does not inspire confidence that this will be the true successor to the current 9X series. Sounds like another die shrink and minor tweaks aka boring refresh.

How the hell can you say that this is a true new generation if you still use an old name? You can't call it a freakin' 9 series card if it's truly next-gen. Ergo, this is nothing new and we can expect a nominal improvement in performance compared to, say, the 9800GTX/GX2.

YAWN!

So GPU families have a 6 month lifespan now instead of a year? The 98xx series was really unimpressive; with falling prices the 8800GT(S) cards are the best deal ever.

All this silliness because of NVs rediculous naming conventions with the G92 cards. Perhaps they're just inverting that trend and re-codenaming the GPUs but putting them in the same common name series.

I think the days when the tech community get's all excited about a new videocard boosting xxx frames/second is already dwindling away.

Yet, there is not anything out there worth playing that really needs their power. (Crysis = another lame tech demo that is a Far-Cry rehash)

That is what is really said.

I'm happy to actually see new architectures coming out, not just suttle improvements to old designs.

What I want to know is what they mean by "announced"... does that mean cards will be available the week of the announcement, or is "announced" and "available" months apart from each other?

Take note that ATI also intends to release cards, possibly a bit earlier in the June time frame, so this summer could be quite interesting with new generation products from both camps.
