I tried it and it mutilated some of the websites I frequent worse than IE7. Then my PC randomly froze after 30 minutes. (IE8 wasn't even open) Had to uninstall it before I could really get a feel of it.

Thought I'd pass this on. I posted earlier about installing IE8 on my work computer (a Dell) and finding it very slow. That slowness continued, so I uninstalled IE8, the uninstall went without a hitch, and my system automatically reverted back to IE7 (which I previously had installed), and all seems to be working fine.
That said, I'm now back to my usual browser, Firefox, which still works much much better than IE7 on any system I own. |

It's a developer preview, not intended to be used on end-user's (even IT pro's) machines. Ya'll been warned. And of course Microsoft "beta" really means "Alpha" for the rest of us (i.e. data loss type bugs, not close to production ready.)
A VM or throwaway/test machine is the only place this should be tested. |

I installed it on my work computer and found it terrible. Now while I am a firefox user 99% of the time, I liked IE7, even the beta, and installed it on all my systems. But this IE8, at least on my work Dell P4, is slow to open pages, slow to load pages, just slowness all the time as though it's on the verge of crashing.

I have tried the beta, and people should be aware that although it's very good, it's highly unstable as of yet.
While some sites work, some sites will malfunction, and some sites hardly function at all. I will sum it up like so: Pros: - IE7 emulation mode, which I'm using as we speak, albeit it has speed issues in this beta. - Improved installation experience, and a dialogue window instead of a webpage on first start. - Session Restore and support for importing from Firefox. - Speed. Handling of tabs lagged behind other browsers such as Firefox, but they have improved a lot in that regard. Also, in IE7, if you middle-clicked a link on your link bar, it would occasionally (site dependent) replace your current tab instead of opening a new one with the link. That has been fixed. - Look and feel. Not too much changed, but it's a bit more pleasant to look at. You can now choose how your new tabs will open (empty/new tab page/homepage). Improved dialogue box when you attempt to close multiple tabs (close tab/close everything and a "remember" tickbox) - Passes the Acid 2 test. - It's still an improvement over Firefox that you can migrate the cache folder to somewhere else, I personally need that. Some miscellaneous bugfixes since IE7. Cons: - While some sites (e.g. DeviantART) work perfectly, some sites (such as The Tech Report) are disfunctional. What this means is that not all sites' banner pictures are clickable, and the button interface on TR, for example, does not work. This is not experienced in IE7 emulation mode. - Some sites have stability issues - for example, Wikipedia, of all the sites out there, does the worst job on this. As soon as you load it, the browser becomes very choppy in everything it does, and if you're trying just a little, you can make it lock up with just Wikipedia. Fortunately, this is how I found out about Session Restore. ;) The cons are too heavy on their own, I don't advise everyday usage. This is several steps in a right direction, though. |

Webslice looks very nice. But I don't like the favorites bar, I hated that in firefox.

Installed it last night...I like it. Firefox importation works great, minus the memory leaks and Flash lock-ups.

The last line should be "IE7 or IE6" I think. IE5/IE6's rendering was very similar.
Doesn't install under wine (0.9.55/0.9.54/0.9.52 were the ones I tried). |

10:38AM - Opened IE 8 beta 1.
10:45AM - Uninstalled IE 8 beta 1.

Benefit of the doubt, yes, yes I know it's beta 1.
