Just a heads-up: we've updated the wording of this piece slightly to better reflect our role in compiling the information. The information hasn't changed, though.

I just equate Phenom with "Flaw" and will avoid. I don't care what AMD has done, I wouldn't touch it. Like most of AMD's history, they have a marketing issue on their hands.

Thanks for the info, I have an AM2 motherboard that apparently has zero support. Which means that if I have to buy a motherboard anyway, I will be going Intel.

Most games are FPS limited by the video card, not the cpu. Since AMD has the better video cards right now, serious enthusiasts need an AMD platform.

Thanks TR for providing this info. When I see stuff like this, I get all warm inside, not my special place, but right above it in my tummy. =) I <3 TR.

Shouldn't this be in your article queue and not the news queue?

Thanks Cyril. Good news on the mainboard support at least.

I for one own an ASrock mATX board that supports Phenom, so I am happy it works, but....

... while the TLB problem is out-in-the-public eye, I don't think the Phenom B2 revision's #3 core (ironically... core 2) is buggy.

I have such a processor in my 9600 Black Edition, and it will not run at stock speeds with any form of stability. Underlocking the #3 core down to 2.0GHz and running the other three at stock 2.3GHz or even clocked up to 2.4Ghz and the system is fine.

This is NOT an uncommon problem.

And this problem begs the question: why is AMD making triple core's? Because they think there is a market for them? Or because they can't make all four cores in their quad's work?

Hmmm.....

I'm waiting for the B3 stepping to come out. AMD's priced these phenoms pretty nicely but my 5000 Black Edition X2 is fine for now. When the B3 releases and prices stabilize I'm going to update my Media Center with a 780G and put the A64 5000 in it and underclock.

Darn. My DFI Ultra-D isn't on the list.

Awesome research and job well done. I presume ya'll will update the chart as you get new information?

The GA-MA780GM-S2H that TR tested the other day isn't on there? Weird.

wolfdale oc'ed to 3.7+GHz >> phenom barely stable stock @ 2.2,
dollar for dollar, for most apps.

It looks like my Biostar nforce 550se is out in the cold for quad.

Well, two things:

a) TigerDirect? That's before the $50 S&H. No, I'm actually being srs.

b) "Exposed"? Sounds like a conspiracy thing to me, but I don't think it is.

And an addendum:

c) Why are people making such a huge fuss over the TLB? To me, this seems like a perfect example of a small thing turned big - in all my internet scouring (techreport, xs, etc, etc), I have not seen one thread where someone claimed "This is it! I've produced the TLB bug under specialized synthetic test conditions and high virtualization load!"

I mean, didn't intel's CPU's with the math erratum still sell?

Great work lads :-) I knew that my mobo supported the Phenoms (not full support since it's not an AM2+ Socket but that's enough for me).

I've seen too much talk about the workaround... Way too much talk. My best mate bought a Phenom 9600 Black Edition about a month ago and he hasn't disable the workaround without having any problem what-so-ever. I don't doubt it there, I'm sure it is, I just don't think it's that easy to have a problem by it.

I never go for brand new technologies and I have AMD CPUs since K6. I don't know if there was ever such a frenzy around AMD and all the talks about AMD "dying". On the other hand with all the press and all the talks about the "bugs" of Phenom might do more good than harm by keeping AMD's name heard and not left for dead.

Intel has a good advantage right now, I'm dissapointed for that because it means less competition. I hope AMD will get back on track really soon. Like #12 said it doesn't worth to kill AMD for 10%... not just yet at least!

While I know Gigabyte and Asus get most of the love from TR and readers, ECS actually compares pretty well in this regard.
