It's free by being loaded with crappy ads, obviously, and seemingly it tries to cater to people that aren't into games, nor excitement.
Well sorry but the thing is not for me, and I'm not installing a free gator toolbar either, in case that's your next suggestion.

I have to say, this doesn't look like a good idea.

To me it looks like its trying to hard to be TF2.

But first impressions can be cross, why I believe I said once or twice, upon first view, that the Wii would fail. Now I'm the proud owner of one.

that made me laugh, particularly the bit about 15yr old gamers. Thought the machine gunners on the wings of the planes were hilarious!

Looks neat. And it's free, seems like a good test of advertising to pay for a game and as long as the advertising isn't too intrusive it shouldn't be an issue.

As for the trailer, I can see how some people would be upset but only if they're way uptight about it. Like this is the first thing to parody the horrors of war? The trailer of gameplay makes me think of a Wile E Coyote vs Roadrunner cartoon but with people and guns and stuff. Should be good for a laugh, now only if they came up with a game like that whiich wasn't all about war.

You know uh... not that most of you will watch the trailer but, I actually thought it was in pretty poor taste. There's a "wrong reel" gag at the beginning that tries to be funny but isn't, and only succeeds at basically undermining the sacrifice of the brave soldiers that fought on D-Day.

I'm not indignant about it or going to start a letter writing campaign or anything, but I dunno... I just feel kindof embarrassed for the people behind the game.

Edit: Also, now that I've had some more time to think about it, seems like the goofy-portion of the trailer just rips off Zero Punctuation. First they rip off Valve on game design, then they rip off ZP on the pitch.

Real originality, guys.

I think this style matches the game play of the Battlefield games I have played. They try to make it realistic, but it feels like I'm playing a Mario game. I enjoy TF2 but it starts to seem like a bunch of guys playing paintball after a while. Maybe a mod for the anti-war nuts could replace the bullets with paint balls, when you get hit, they send you back to the showers to re-spawn.

It has potential. I'll probably download it and try it out. I wouldn't really be opposed to embedded advertising either, as long as it stays free.

Take the trailer with a grain of salt. The trailers for Battlefield 2 were fabricated for marketing purposes and the actual game turned out to be nothing like what the trailers depicted, in gameplay, features and graphics. If EA fabricates one of their trailers for marketing purposes, how can we expect them not to fabricate all of their trailers for marketing purposes?

Free WILL get people to line up for this game. At least the people playing can't complain about the buggy and crashing nature -- they DIDN'T pay for it. Maybe it will get the advertisers to bitch about the quality of the product.

Oh wait, it's EA. You're still fucked.

doesn't look great to me, something about the art style doesn't look right. It will probably do okay due to being free, but I doubt it'll be a great game

It might be worth trying. I used to love playing BF1942, DC, DCX, etc.

It would be very nice if it were actually fun, but if it's MP only some jerk will ruin it.

based on the trailer, I'll give it a try, as it looks like fun. yeah, fun. something thats been lacking in alot of pc games these days. eye candy is NOT a replacement for fun, and neither is scaring the living bejesus out of me.
