Too little, too late. The 3870 would have been the bomb at sub $200 prices when it first came out. Now, with the 9600GT releasing in two days, it's not worth it.

ATI are going horribly, they need to just drop the prices even lower, sadly.

to be honest the trim was expected long ago. but is good for competition

BTW what is the big deal with 9600 ? i don't understand is a G94( is worst then G92) doesn't have 10.1 , only 512Mb GDDR3 ,256bit mainstream just. may be the 8800gs is similar at performance.
So 3870 is a bit better.(GDDR 4 memory + 10.1)
the 9600 is only good for 3 way SLI maybe or hybrid crap , i don't know why anyone will buy 9600 .

8800gt is still the best... $10 -20 difference but 20% more peformance.

ATI should work on getting the "dual-card" boards slightly smaller in size and drop the price to $399. then i'll take the plunge.

actually, i think i'm gonna try to wait for the "HD 4xxx" series.. by then NVidia will also have a refresh out.. so can see who can finally achieve playable rates in Crysis @ 1920x1200.

here i am still stuck on a X800 XL *pout*

Is 64SP really enough for shader heavy games in the future? Or will it cripple it like 7900gs? Currently there aren't too many games where SP dictates massive performance differences but that day is coming soon.

You can get a 8800gt for $220 and $180 after rebate. Why would you get a 9600gt when you can get a 8800gt with 112SP for same price after rebate?

9600gt does well now for current crop of games but so did Geforce 7 series at the time. I just wonder if it would last..

You can tell that HD3000 series have stronger shader compared to 9600gt or else it would lose to 9600gt in all the tests because 9600gt has massive texture fillrate over HD3000 series.

Geez, how much more can they pricecut these things before they're selling them at a loss?

i'm in that boat.

Have a HD3870 and a Tv wonder 650Pro. Excellent combo, i'm aware of the speed difference in the GT but when I was buying not worth the $+40 premium.

@ the 1680x1050 that I game at the differences aren't that great. However at 1920x1200 I would have considered the GT more but since I don't own a 24` monitor moot point.

with a HDTV or 20.1" Display & a Theatre 650Pro; who cares if the GT makes 15% more FPS.
