A reporting betraying a source's confidence? Never!

The only interesting thing about this is that the newspaper thinks the attention it'll get from the public outweighs the souring of their relationship with 3DRealms. It obviously thinks people still really care about the game.

[3D Realms] has told Shacknews that it did not confirm a release schedule in its interview.
So why even bother posting a news item for something that's essentially a rumor? That's for the Inquirer's of the world to do, not TR. Tsk, tsk.

The question is, where is the product differentiation 10 years after the fact? "Back in the day" Duke was a hit and a sequel was newsworthy because it was an incredibly pretty FPS with a slightly interactive environment. Today it's completely unremarkable for the exact same reasons. We see half a dozen new games that fit the description every month now. And if anything, the gruff macho stylings of DNF are a cliche devs work hard to avoid. So will DNF have to market itself as "retro-obvious" or something?

Will it ship? Will we notice?

It quotes 3D Realms President Scott Miller as saying, "We may miss the mark by a month or two, but on the other hand we've already missed the mark by a decade or two, so who's counting right? Relax guy, put your feet up."
