you know, i'll bet what's preventing them from ramping to higher speeds is just the fab process in general, not any particular erratum.

In other news, if I can make sure I get a B3 phenom, I'm dropping it in my system to replace my X2... clock speeds don't matter, since I'm only at 2ghz now, so why not? :)

First off, remember not a single review site was able to duplicate the bug.
Second, nowhere in the xbit labs article does it say the B3 stepping was pushed into Q2, but rather just that the higher clockspeed models were. If you go to newegg and read the comments on the black edition phenom, the very first reviewer was able to OC it on air past 3ghz - remember it's a $239 quad! So much for the TLB issue. Plus |

What techreport should have replied is "are you or are you not working on a B4 stepping already? and if so, why?"

Techreport becoming the de facto source of authority on the TLB bug. I'm sure AMD contacted others, but based on the number of places I saw links to TR's TLB Patch Benchmark article, this had to be high on their list.
I'm sure TR saw a spike in page views when that article came out; I wonder how many of those people are coming back regularly now? |

With a show stopping bug like the TLB, AMD should have held off releasing Phenom and pulled the existing X4 Opterons out of the channel. People quickly forget a delayed release, but are long to remember getting screwed. Plus, Athlon64 is a more than viable product that could have filled in the gap until all the bugs were worked out.

wow AMD isn't hyping this one up, maybe it'll actually deliver... No seriously though I really hope this works out for them.
I'm impressed that TR was one of the first AMD contacted. GO TR! |

I read the magazine PC Plus here in the UK, and it mentioned TR with regards to the TLB bug.. was interesting seeing it in print.

I really hope this doesn't mean.....
"B3 does fix the errata, but is screwed up in some other way that prevents us from shipping at higher clockspeeds..." edit: inquirer says there won't be any further revisions, so I guess my fears were unfounded. |

WTF are u talking about... processors that amd sell work just fine on their default frequency... where do u see the screwing ??? u have no idea what ur talking about.
About b3 and the bug.. Well noone is perfect, maybe amd should wait before releasing the low speed phenoms and fix the bug first but it doesnt really matter.. I honour them! They kinda survive on such cruel market.. I dont know why they just dont get a software multiplicator for processor speeds and back it up.. cuz ppl are mad on MHz or let me say GHz .. it makes me sick.. and thats why intel is slowly winning. I look forward to buying the new b3 stepping.. even if maybe intel might be better and faster for same price i dont care.. ill buy amd anyway cuz i thrust them.. I wonder how many bugs c2d and c4d still have... cuz intel will try to hide it... NUKE INTEL :D ... have fun ppl
