OK, why do cards have an s-video connector?

Has anyone ever used it (and if they did was it worth it)?

P.S. Which devices use it?

since its royalty free, how many hundreds of dollars will i be saving on this card? Also, how many HDTV's out there have a DisplayPort?

Hopefully nothing bad will happen if someone mistakenly uses HDMI cable on the port, or vice versa. LOL!

I really wish they would standardize the stupid cabling and connections..... jesus christ and for petes sake.

they knew well ahead of time the amount of data they may be needed they've always been able to overbuild so that ppl don't have to screw around repeatedly just to carry data.

how long did boring old VGA cables last.......

here we are stuck in the damned format wars and they can't even agree on the damned cables needed...... HD, blu ray, upscaled DVD and now cabling is a disaster.... seriously a disaster.

I remember when I bought an LG DVD+-RW with the now and at the time dead DVD RAM feature......

I have an ATI card with an HDMI interface along with DVI and adapters for VGA..... with most LCD displays now coming with PC connections how about everyone stop screwing around and simply switch to an interface that will be good for the next 10 years like VGA was for the previous 10 and then some.

I'm ok with change but jesus enough is enough get it right or overbuild so it's right for a while.

Actually, the beauty of DisplayPort is that you can have four ports on one card.

On second thought, Matrox might start getting worried now...or maybe they'll be the first to release a PCIex1 Millenium G Series card with four DisplayPorts!

EDIT: This was supposed to be a reply to DASQ's post #4.

I have to wonder what VESA is thinking. Do we need another port? DVI, HDMI and now Display Port. Oh well. There's always the chance that it will end up with VESA local bus...

I'm in the process of running HDMI cables in my walls. Not cheap. Does Display Port handle longer runs better than HDMI?

does this mean we only need one display port to support those 30 inch screens rather than a dual-link dvi or two other ports?

that is IF they can actually get any major e-tailors to carry their cards, or if they could manufacture them in any quantity.

Tigerdigect (rip you off, lie to you, steal your CC #, deny your rebate) and Directron (okay) are their only e-tailors and they don't have a single one of their already released 8800GT cards. It's been months. I wish newegg and zipzoomfly would pick them up.

This would be handy with a DP to DVI splitter that can recognize each stream as an independent monitor.

I'm looking to get a third monitor, and my 8800GTS doesn't have 3 DVI outputs :/
