i'm looking forward to the SN10000eg becoming more widely available in the US.

this product is a neat idea from an appliance standpoint, but i really want that last little "oomph" that i'll be able to get w/ a pci-e graphics card installed.

Well then it seems like your main hangup is the software flexibility.
You got it. Software freedom (and a relatively big screen to display art work) is what I want.
What kind of touchscreen would you do for a mini audio frontend?
I haven't done enough research on this area. I think that a 7'' screen would be enough.
Now that you linked the SqueezeBox I am seriously considering one though! Thanks for making me aware of it.
You're welcome. Most reviewers agree that it's a great device and well-priced. It has a great community developing add-ons (for example you can access the SlimServer via your Nokia N770/N800 Internet Table)

#28,
I have all my music (in lossless format) in a file server. I only need a small, noiseless PC (nobody would want noise in his/her audio room) to fetch and decode the music.
IMO, having the music stored in a NAS/file server makes a lot of sense if you want a 100 % noiseless system (booting from CompactFlash, SSD, pen drive or whichever solid-state storage you can think of) but you can use a notebook-drive without much troubles (except if your music collection is really big)

#26,
Well, there are devices like the Squeezebox ( http://www.slimdevices.com/pi_squeezebox.html? ), but it needs a PC (or a special NAS) to run the back-end software (SlimServer)
Other devices are the Roku SoundBridge ( http://www.rokulabs.com/products_soundbridge.php ), the Sonos Music System ( http://www.sonos.com/ ), etc.
IMO, nothing compares to a small, fanless, noiseless x86 device managed throu a touchscreen display and running the software of your choice (Winamp, foobar2000, amaroK, XMMS, etc)

S/PDIF output please :(
I could use a USB DAC, though.
[Wet dream on]
Lossless music collection on big NAS >ARTiGO Pico-ITX w/ small touchscreen display running foobar2000 >S/PDIF >nice DAC

The one big question that jumps out at me is why they'd still have a PATA interface. When compared to a SATA plug it's huge, and I'd have thought that real estate would be much better served with something else...

#21,
It was a joke.
I'm waiting for a small x86 device like this as a dedicated jukebox throu a high-end audio setup.

This a very cool gismo.
With the low power draw and small size, it would be a great system to mount in the boot of your car with wireless access.
At 15-20 W, it could run off a spare battery for a bit.

Also there is a SATA on the board, so you don't have the use the PATA interface for drives.

Might be nicer if they had at least one or two USB ports in the back, as well as the audio jacks, just for the sake of nice cabling. If you just wanted to stick this on a shelf to use as a media center thing, you'd at least have the audio cable sticking out the front and looping around back, possibly a keyboard cable too. I suppose you can only cram so much into a single side of something that small though. Maybe they could have put them on the sides instead.

Other than that, neat-o. I like the idea of stacking several of these up in a full ATX tower's 5.25" bays (where they could then bake each other despite the low wattage).

Does anyone have a "box" that allows for all external drives/CD devices? It would be pretty cool to have a computer that didn't have internal optical/hard drives and was reliant on 100% external versions of those.

Why did they have to saddle it with a VGA port? At least make it a DVI-I port. A DVI port and some form of digital audio output would have made this a great candidate for a lightweight HTPC system.

EDIT: Nevermind, I see it comes with the appropriate cable to swap the VGA port with a DVI port :) No such like for digital audio output though.

Now this looks cool. A little over 1 pound? Low power draw? I'd like to have a mini webserver running on this thing....
