NSA is probably their 1st customer. Needs high bandwidth to capture and analyze all that personal telecom data, plus cost is no object for them.

Meh, I would rather have a Fusion ioDrive (http://www.fusionio.com/). it's also more "affordable" at $20K for the 640GB version.

Wow. And to think, just this weekend, I blasted an old IDE 1.6 GB hard drive with my AR-15. Bah ha haaa!

Although very nice, I'm not sure this is all that revolutionary. It sounds like they just took a very high-density Flash system, and stuck a whole bunch of them together with an controller to handle the multiple parts. Basically it's a JBOD array (although I don't know if controllers for regular disk JBOD allows independent access to the disks).
Now, imagine what they could do with a full-height 5.25" drive! Besides make a very very heavy piece of hardware (do Flash chips use copper or aluminum?). |

WTF! That's insane. The Super Talent 128gb sells for almost $5000, this 1.6TB has got to sell for $60,000.

I wish I could be frozen and then thawed when these are affordable (and the 08 elections are over).

Typo in first paragraph, " 600GB " it should be.
