I've updated the graphs on the folding page for the Amber and Tinker WUs. The previous graphs had incorrect scores for the Core 2 Quad Q6600.

The Apple guys will want to look at this one carefully, since everyone knows that all CPU performance ultimately boils down to a few select Photoshop filters.
Classic! |

Vintage Scott Wasson:
Great review. Nice to see your sense of humor in High gear again. How about doing some Damage Vids a la Hexus TV? Your witty sense of humor may land you a big TV ROLL as a Tech Anchor! |

Long-time TR readers know about my aversion to paying the big premiums to get top-end products when reasonably priced alternatives are available.
And there is the reason I keep coming back to TR for my hardware fix. It gets told like it is. |

The Core 2 Quad Q6600 was secretly the star of our show today
Totally agree! I'll upgrade from E2160 to Q6600 very soon. :-) Thanks for the nice review, as always. |

I liked this review, especially the part about "cubic assload of flying doodads". :)
For some reason I laughed my ass off at this. And I haven't even started drinking yet! This review was more fun to read than most! Nice job Scott! |

In situ is a Latin phrase meaning in the place. It is used in many different contexts.
From the, um, Wikipedias. |

Well done as always. ;)
I'd have myself a Q6600 aswell if I wasn't doing so well getting a 1333 FSB on my P5WDH and E6420 (pleasant surprise to say the least). Still no need for Quad just yet on my end. |

Great review, but you were clearly bored. ;)
QX6850 is hardly that exciting. The sight clockspeed boost is what providing the marginable boost over QX6800 (3.00Ghz versus 2.93Ghz). 1333Mhz FSB does absolutely nothing for C2Q, because it is not quite FSB limited yet. |

Dudes. An E6850 (3 GHz, 1333 MT/s FSB, 4MB L2, dual-core, in other words, half a QX6850) would've been a better comparison chip than the E6750. Sure, the E6750 is probably the Intel sweet spot right now, but the E6850 would have been a better apples-to-apples comparison owing to a clock speed similar to the QX6800, QX6850 and X5365 parts.

Excellent review. I get the feeling Scott was a little giddy thanks to testing the best single CPU out there on the best motherboard available with a ridiculous amount of earth-shaking RAM.
But who wouldn't be? |

"Heck, the iPhone is locked down tighter than Fort Knox."
Man if Fort Knox had iphone's security, we'd have even more of a financial crisis on our hands! No gold! http://secunia.com/product/15128/?task=statistics But I'm sure you mean the development platform. |

If you are a gamer you cannot go wrong with a Q6600 @3.x. Save you money for a next gen graphics card.

Really good read though. Thanks muchly!
Thanks also for explaining about updating the testbed. Stuff like that has to happen. Now I just need to decide if it's worth $300 to upgrade from an x2 @ 2.4ghz to a c2d. Hmm. Probably no :P |
