So we don't see the new big gun from Nvidia.. Nice..
This proves that Nvidia is not at all underpressure and is playing around with the same chip. |

This rumored "8800GTS" may in fact be a "underclocked, BIOS-disabled steam processors" 8800GTX. It is Nvidia's way of unloading their good "G80" chips to make room for the next refresh.
8800GTs are really "old 8800GTS" that are underclocked and given less video memory. a.k.a 7900GS. It is another way to unload less-than desirable G80 cores. 8800GTS 2.0 will probably be marketed as a 8800GTO. |

And what are they going to do with all the GTS cards in the marketplace currently?

I think Nvidia won't name it 8800GTS... it would be something else. (I could be wrong here)

I'm guessing more than one will try their luck with the new BIOSes on the "older" card =).

Why don't they just release a card for every possible number of stream processors?

I hope someone will make a software tweak to unlock those extra 12 SP's, if possible of course.

Does anyone know the memory bandwidth on the 8800GT? I heard a rumor that nVidia trimmed it to 256-bit.

I'm glad it makes sense to you. My head is now seriously hurting from all these GS, GT, GTS, GTX suffixes. Of course, AMD is no better, but since this is an Nvidia, I'm gonna rag on them.

Kind of a pisser I got a GTX recently even though it was a good bargain, I could justify the 25% greater speed per clock but with this card it's 12.5%. aah well..
