at least havok runs on software to do the physics...not hardware that costs money well spent on other things...

no matter what people say, physics in games and other apps are best left to proper programming and intelligent physics SOFTWARE...not HARDWARE

quad core isn't there for nothing...or better yet dual core...most games and apps can't take both cores...so use the other one to do it...

Sometimes I wonder if AGEIA and PHYS-X was created solely for my amusement of watching the company do stupid crap, then crash and burn.

Why not just sell the 10W chip for the desktop AND laptop cards? It's not like it would be cheap enough that most people would buy it, but it'd be more attractive if it didn't have YET ANOTHER fan on it.

I don't know how loud it is. I don't care. The thing is, that fan is going to wear out. And is it a standard size? I doubt it. It's hard to find two mainstream video cards that can use the same HSF.

I probably wouldn't buy one if it were $25 shipped, PCIe 1X, 2.5W and passively cooled, so it's irrelevant. I have zero games that would use a PPU.

Mobile chip huh?

They should've held off and introduced it in this format to begin with, and courted the GPU makers into putting it on their cards.

I wouldnt pay more then $50 for PhysX processor. anything else is just a waste of money

Yea the PhyX accelerator is a great idea. Save eight more PCIe slots for the all new A.I. aXXelerator, TeXXture FeTTure, the legendary Killer NIC, Creative Blaster, and 2900XT quadFire.

If they can get a card that they can demonstrate being effective for physics, outperforming a quad-core chip, and sell it for under $100, then they might actually get some uptake of their product.

However because physics is so tied in with the environment within a game or simulation, and the environment is already being managed by the GPU, and physics is often used to just make effects prettier and more realistic, and GPUs are getting more general purpose, I can't see stand-alone physics chips being a realistic long-term option for gamers. It makes so much sense to put that functionality into the GPU.

10W doesn't sound terribly impressive. Don't ULV Core 2 Duos have TDP of about that?

This company needs to go away. Let quad cores handle the physix

Well, that's still 10W and X$ I'd rather apply to something that matters.

PhysX isn't making much progress in the desktop enthusiast market. Given that high-powered gaming-oriented laptops are a somewhat smaller market segment, is there any justification whatsoever for creating this?

I'm sure Ageia is hoping Intel buys it out. (Think Havok)

OOoooo Maybe we'll see a desktop version of this that uses PCI-e then soon. That could help them some. personally i still like the idea of a PPU add in card. Quad cores are nice and powerful, but they still won't ever be able to do the types of calculations that dedicated hardware will be able to do. At least not in real time.
