And AMD is showing...???
They should have used the CoolerMaster Cosmos chassis. It looks better IMHO. |

Given that this is a demonstration system, I would not be surprised if that many fans weren't actually necessary. They're shiny, and that's what's important for a demo system. Besides, any system with that number of fans would be loud, not just Skulltrailones.
[/fanboy] What I would like to see is a challenge issued to AMD and Intel - send us your biggest, baddest hunk of computing hardware that can be stuffed into a Cooler Master CM 832, plug SLI 8800GTXs and identical hard drive into them, and let Damage bench-test them until the capacitors burst! |

You know how they give you stickers when you buy intel processors, and like asus mobos and sapphire tech video cards, they should throw in skull stickers for your case when you buy the skulltrail it would be excellent.

Is it me or does this setup look a lot like the AMD setup with the dual PhenomFX4s? The main difference is that the AMD system had to use less aggressive cooling (on the CPU coolers anyway), and it had the green glowing fans - oh, and it was running Stranglehold.

Skulltrail is the best codename ever. Might as well name it Brokendreams or Bloodyentrails.

i think i just did something involuntary...that system is beautiful...its really a feast for the eyes...
its one of those products that make sad...its too good to have...no moolah to spend on that much of power...wonder when it'll become affordable for ye olde commoners :( |

That's right: Skulltrail will support SLI graphics configs using as many as all four of its PCIe x16 slots. As I understand it, the drivers for this new incarnation of quad SLI are still in development, but they are apparently on the way.
NVidia still hasn't gotten SLI right with TWO cards in Vista after almost two years of driver development. I have no confidence at all that FOUR-card SLI will be anything other than an even more tremendous waste of power, heat, cooling, noise and MONEY. |

Also, a quick FYI for Intel: Multiple sockets meant a whole lot more back when sockets == cores.

I think that's the Cooler Master 830 evo case. I'm still working on all the specs for my new computer and the CM 830 evo is in the top running for my next case. Lots of room for 8800gtx cards which are incredibly long and can't fit in most mainstream cases.
The case itself comes with the side fan rack but no fans... you have to buy them extra. http://www.madshrimps.be/?action=getarticle&articID=526 |

This codename always makes me think of these guys:
http://www.trailofdead.com/ The whole thing, like V8 and 4X4 and chromed-up Hummers, just shrieks Silly Waste Of Money. Eight cores? FB-DIMMs? Quad graphics cards? But I'm sure the Alienware and VoodooPCs of the world will eat it up, and there's always some kid out there with daddy's AmEx, or the bonus from their first decent job, who will buy it. Really, at the very least Intel should have at least hired one of the case mod gods to do a "skull trail" enclosure for them. |

Nah, it is because that overclock is just unstable with that given voltage. Getting a POST out of 4.0Ghz with pre-production chips is still no simple feat though.
Why overclock Xeon CPUs anyway? Xeons are meant for stability and sane TPD because they will end-up in workstation and servers. Overclocking is a no-go for such systems where data intergery and stability matter more than pure performance. |

And somewhere, another child dies of malnutrition..... How could Intel be so thoughtless when they put these up on the market.
Just kidding. But I'm still not convinced of SLI, I still think it's gimmicky. So yeah, 4? Heh, imagine the problems users would have with 4, considering the range of problems with just standard SLI. Dual sockets? Nice, but until games take advantage of greater than 4 cores, I imagine that second socket would be mostly, unused. |

Wow, got fans?
Reminds me of that cherry picked 3GHz Phenom. gratuitous: Still nothing on TXT/TPM? Not sure if or when that technology will slide down onto enthusiast products. The big advantages for it are in enterprise/business security, which is why the Intel business platform has it. Security is less a concern for home users (and that is arguably retarded logic given the size of some of the worlds botnets). Yes, I realize it can also be used to help enforce DRM, but I consider that somewhat secondary to the security benefits it brings. |
