While it is generally agreed that AMD has been releasing a whole lot of powerpoint slides and not enough actual products lately, we need to remember that this is all for AMD Analyst Day, i.e. a scheduled annual(?) event. I don't think they need to be criticized for releasing powerpoint slides on the day they actually need them.
oh yeah, nice to see them finally officially telling us what "fusion" actually is. |

Nice to see AMD can use Powerpoint... now release something already! I'm starting to think AMD is full of wind.

That 'Performance-per-watt' graph lacks a scale.. it might as well be 0.1% increase in client, 0.2% in server and 0.4% HPC. Obviously there's nothing to test to produce a proper graph, but as it is, the graph means extremely little.

Nice to see AMD getting aggressive... at least with the code names!
Will Intel counter with a "Backhoe" core with 'Hawk' and 'LandShark' chipsets? |

Suggestion/Question: Would it have been better to aggregate all of this info into a "mini-review" style news post versus 3 or 4 posts that take up the whole front page?

As pluscard said, I don't see the point of criticizing AMD for revealing future plans. This is all important stuff to know and shows that the company is planning for the future. There's no harm in that.

How about AMD release a business plan for 2007, like, I dunno, releasing processors?

this is marketing. nothing else. AMD, please present real products, and real tests, then talk.

Wait, is that a picture of a Samsung Q1 Ultra UMPC in the slide about "Bobcat"? But... but... it uses an Intel CPU.
Hehe. On a serious note, it's good to hear that Fusion will be getting in on the latest CPU microarchitecture and not getting strapped with an older core, which I had feared would be the case judging by its intended market. Fusion makes a lot of sense when you consider that the vast majority of systems (95%?) are sold with integrated graphics. But you knew that already. I'll go one further. My hunch is that this might be AMD's golden egg that will encourage OEMs to adopt the company's platform in droves for lower costs and branding purposes (i.e. system is equipped with ATI Radeon graphics). Of course, this has sort of happened already for AMD and Nvidia IGP chipsets, but with such integration there will be even less of a market for the VIAs and SiSs of the world. Intel will respond soon enough. |

Sheesh, enough with the articles with lots of pictures posted to the front page. It's really annoying to scroll past once, then scroll past again if you want to read comments.

Sounds kind of like Suns multi-multi core chip, will be interesting to see if the cores specs.

So "Bulldozer" is the core and Sandtiger is the (server) implementation?
And Sandtiger is an octo? Wow, glueless 64-core 8S servers. |

Lest some of you forget, AMD is precisely why you can buy an e6600 for just $212 this morning (according to pricewatch). Remember when a 3ghz P4 "northwood" was $800?
As far as ATI goes - it's beginning to look like they weren't going to make it on their own. How about an Nvidia monopoly? AMD was far sighted enough, and had enough cash to keep ATI alive until it's next gen stuff can come out.
So, sure, I'm a fanboy, but for very good reason.
