So, theoretically, one could program a 3D game using CTM and end up with a program that is ATI specific but eight times faster than using OpenGL?

They charge a heap for the OpenGL drivers for CAD (ie. ATI FireGL, Nvidia Quadro), why $2000 more for the same consumer card used defferently ?

I can understand charging for additional tools & software but that stream HW is identical (bar a switch).
