Finally got off my ass to put the X2 with my components of the main rig:
- S939 X2 3800+ OEM (new)
- Asus A8N-VM CSM (using IGP)
- 2x1GB Corsair Value Select DDR400
- Seasonic S12-430
Floppy, DVD drive, HDDs variable because I'm still bench testing the thing.
The old CPU was S939 A64 3200+. This is pretty bizarre (to me at least). I can't seem to do a warm reset through either Ctrl-Alt-Delete, or using shutdown.exe or some FDOS util called reboot.exe. Basically it does the shutdown but it does not boot backup. The most I can make out is that the optical drive (if I have it attached) spins up again, but the HDD did not. And there is no video signal. The one tell-tale sign was that the 3 lights on the keyboard should have all blinked once if there is a reset, but it didn't seem to happen when this shows up.
A hard reset (hitting the reset button) seems to be able to reboot the machine fine. So imagine if I need to restart after Windows Update. I either do a hard reset, or I have to shutdown and then turn it on again. No big deal really since I don't normally reboot the machine or shut it down. After it successfully boots up, everything is fine. Passing memtests, Prime95+RTHDRIBL, etc. etc.
Just wonder if there is anything obvious? Like I might have shorted something or not connected right? Note the same problem appeared on an open bench and now in the case (I thought my makeshift was the culprit, but after putting it properly in a case problem still persisted ).
Need some help if you have some quick ideas. Never seen this before.
PS. Have not ruled out cutting some traces or borking the motherboard when I'm putting the board in and out of the case (it's a tight fit, needed to plan a lot and practise a few times), but I would probably never know.
