It looks like VIA’s K8T890 chipset is incompatible with AMD’s dual-core Athlon 64 X2 processors. VIA apparently has a new revision of the chipset that resolves the incompatibility, and intends to ship the new silicon to motherboard manufacturers “shortly.” There’s no telling when the new chipset revision will actually make its way onto the market, though.
