AMD's new Congo mobile platform has found its latest host. This time, the system is an MSI ultraportable that delivers a 12.1" display, a dual-core processor, and Windows 7 Home Premium into a compact little package weighing in at less than three pounds.
The new Wind 12 U230 has a 1366x768 display resolution, a 1.6GHz Athlon Neo X2 L335 processor, Radeon HD 3200 integrated graphics, up to 4GB of DDR2 RAM, up to 320GB of mechanical storage, and 802.11n Wi-Fi. MSI also includes the usual extras, including a webcam and card reader.
The Wind 12 U230 is 0.9-1.2" thick and weighs a scant 2.9 lbs with the three-cell battery, placing it in roughly in the same league as many Atom netbooks (although those tend to have smaller displays). MSI offers a six-cell battery, too, but that'll probably bring the weight up by a few ounces.
The Wind 12 U230 doesn't look to have reached U.S. e-tail stocks just yet, and MSI doesn't quote pricing on the official product page. For a frame of reference, the company's Yukon-based Wind U210 costs $430 with a single-core processor and Windows Vista.
