Earlier this week, we reported on a leaked roadmap that mentioned both Nehalem processors and an upcoming Core 2 Quad Q8200 CPU. DigiTimes has now secured some details about the Q8200 from its sources at Taiwanese motherboard makers.

If DigiTimes’ tipsters have their facts straight, the Q8200 will come out in the third quarter and feature a 2.33GHz clock speed, 4MB of L2 cache, a 1333MHz front-side bus, and a $203 price tag—about as expensive as the existing 2.4GHz Core 2 Quad Q6600. DigiTimes doesn’t mention which process Intel will use to make the Q8200, but the aforementioned leaked roadmap said it would be a 45nm offering. If that’s the case, the Q8200 should be competitive with the Q6600 in performance terms while consuming less power.

But why not add this chip to the current Q9000 45nm Core 2 Quad series? Simple: DigiTimes says the newcomer will support neither Intel’s hardware Virtualization Technology nor the company’s Trusted Execution Technology. Folks who need these features may have to cough up the extra cash for a Q9000 offering.
