AMD made headlines last week when it announced plans to collaborate with the open-source community to develop an open driver for its Radeon graphics cards. However, that wasn't the company's only Linux-related promise that week. AMD has now delivered on its second pledge by releasing a new proprietary graphics driver for Linux. The driver is numbered 8.41.7, and it finally brings support for the Radeon HD 2000 series of graphics cards.
Linux users can download the driver here for 32-bit distributions of and here for 64-bit distros. Release notes for both drivers can also be viewed on this page. AMD says the driver is recommended for Radeon HD 2000 cards only, advising users of older cards to wait for a future release that will bring unified support.
